I have short black hair and i want to go natural. please help!!!!?

I have short black hair and my hair is relaxed and i am so ready to go natural because of all the breakage and split ends. should i grow out my relaxed hair than cut it or just cut all of my hair and start from scratch. the last time i had a relaxer was 2/28/09
